The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced the appointment of Sunniya Durrani-Jamal as the new Country Director for Azerbaijan. Durrani-Jamal will oversee ADB’s operations in Azerbaijan, focusing on building strong relationships with the government and stakeholders. She will also lead the preparation and implementation of the bank’s new country partnership strategy, aligning with Azerbaijan’s development goals and ADB’s Strategy 2030.

In her statement, Durrani-Jamal expressed her excitement about leading ADB’s efforts in Azerbaijan and emphasized her commitment to diversifying the economy and improving the quality of life for the people. The focus will be on expanding renewable energy, addressing climate change, and transitioning to a private-sector-led green economy.

Since 1999, ADB has provided over $5 billion in assistance to Azerbaijan, covering various sectors like transport, energy, health care, and agriculture. ADB’s mission is to achieve a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable Asia-Pacific region while continuing its efforts to eradicate extreme poverty.
