The agency reported that a drone worth only “several hundred dollars” was able to take out an automated air defense system valued at $10 million.
The 9K33 Osa, developed in the Soviet Union in the 1960s, is still in use by Russia, Ukraine, and other countries. The video released by HUR showed the FPV drone crashing into the Russian weapon system, followed by footage of the equipment engulfed in flames.
This strategic move comes as Russia has reportedly lost 970 air defense systems since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The Osa system has been a significant threat to Ukrainian drones, leading to experts observing a decrease in the use of Bayraktar drones by Ukraine.
