He emphasized the need for cutting-edge technologies and suggested the involvement of an international consortium in the project if the referendum results are favorable.
The voting for Kazakhstan’s nuclear power plant referendum commenced on October 6. In 2023, the Kazakh Ministry of Energy identified potential contenders for the project, including China’s CNNC, South Korea’s KHNP, France’s EDF, and Russia’s Rosatom.
When asked about the construction responsibilities post-referendum, President Tokayev highlighted the importance of thorough analysis and negotiation. He expressed his belief in the participation of global companies in the consortium and expressed optimism for the project’s outcomes.
