Russia Claims Capture of Village in Eastern Ukraine

Russian forces have captured another village in eastern Ukraine, while Kyiv reported five civilians killed by Russian shelling in the south and east. The Russian defense ministry announced the liberation of Zhelannoye Vtoroye in Donetsk region, near the logistics hub of Pokrovsk. Prosecutors confirmed two civilian deaths in Toretsk and Velyka Novosilka, and two more in Mala Tokmachka due to Russian shelling.

In separate incidents, a 49-year-old man died in Kharkiv region from a Russian drone strike, while civilians in Gorlivka and Zaporizhzhia were injured by Ukrainian shelling and drones. The Russian-installed authorities reported the attacks. Since February 2022, Russia has occupied 18% of Ukraine, making significant advances against Ukrainian forces in 2024.
