Puja and Namaz Offered Peacefully at Dhar’s Bhojshala

In a remarkable display of communal harmony, a BJP-led government in Madhya Pradesh managed a peaceful solution during a dispute over a shared religious site. The incident occurred in 2006 when Shivraj Singh Chouhan, as the Chief Minister, successfully oversaw Friday prayers and Basant Panchami celebrations at Bhojshala, a site claimed by both Hindus and Muslims. The administration, under the guidance of senior IPS officer Shailendra Srivastava, tactfully limited the number of worshipers to prevent clashes between the two communities.

Despite tensions and the presence of radical groups, the local administration ensured that both Saraswati Puja and Namaz were allowed on the same day under strict time schedules. Through strategic communication and intervention, the situation was defused, and both communities were able to practice their faith peacefully.

This historic incident, detailed in Srivastava’s new book “Shackle the Storm,” highlights the importance of dialogue and cooperation in maintaining communal harmony. Such efforts in defusing religious tensions deservedly earned accolades and recognition for the government in preventing potential violence and fostering peace in the region.
