The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Niger State Wing is concerned about the delay in providing instructional materials to schools since the resumption after four weeks. The NUT Chairman, Comrade Adamu Mohammed Akayago, expressed displeasure at the 2024 World Teachers Day celebration in Minna over the weekend. He highlighted the lack of basic teaching materials and the delayed admission of students into JSS.1 and SS.1.
Furthermore, Akayago called on the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to address these issues promptly. He also urged the state government to provide adequate running costs for Education Secretaries and School Heads. Additionally, the implementation of the domestic servant allowance for teachers on grade level 15 and above was discussed, along with the need for promotions beyond grade level 16.
Niger State Governor, Muhammad Umaru Bago, reassured teachers of forthcoming measures to address their challenges. The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Muhammad, emphasized the importance of teachers in shaping character and inspiring generations.
The event also saw presentations of merit awards and gifts to dignitaries and educators who have shown dedication to the growth of the education sector in Niger State.
