The Nigerian Correctional Service is currently investigating allegations surrounding convicted cross dresser Bobrisky’s accommodation, following claims made by social media influencer Very Dark Man. Bobrisky, known as Idris Okuneye, was convicted for mutilating the naira and was allegedly recorded saying he spent his jail term in a private apartment and paid officials to drop money laundering charges.
The Minister of Interior inaugurated an independent panel to probe corruption and violations within the NCoS, including claims of special treatment for Bobrisky. The Deputy Controller of Corrections Service emphasized the rigorous admission process for inmates, which includes security and needs assessments to ensure rehabilitation and safety.
Despite Bobrisky identifying as male during admission, the NCoS placed him in an appropriate cell based on classification and security factors. The ongoing investigation will determine the truth behind the allegations of him staying outside custodial facilities.
As the inquiry unfolds, the NCoS remains committed to upholding human rights principles in its treatment of inmates, providing a standard of care guided by thorough checks and security measures.
