Lithuania seizes military supplies from Kaliningrad-Moscow trains, sends them to Ukraine.

Customs officers in Lithuania recently intercepted military uniforms and camouflage nets being transported on passenger trains from Kaliningrad to Moscow. The small but heavily armed Kaliningrad Oblast is sandwiched between the Baltic Sea and NATO members, leading to increased vigilance by Lithuanian authorities. Four shipments of military items were seized between Sept. 27 and Oct. 2, including camouflage trousers and nets found at the Kybartai train station near the exclave’s border.

Authorities suspect the items were meant for Russian forces in Ukraine, with plans to redirect them as military aid to Ukraine. The incident further strains relations between Vilnius and Moscow, as Lithuania has staunchly supported Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. Another alarming discovery on the railway line displayed symbols associated with Russian invasion forces in Ukraine, sparking concerns and reminders of historic annexations during World War II.

This interception highlights the ongoing tensions in the region and the complexities of border security, particularly with regards to military movements. Vilnius remains vigilant in monitoring potential threats and supporting neighboring countries in their defense efforts.
