Lithuania Bolsters Air Defense with New NASAMS Systems
Lithuania has recently invested 234 million euros in additional NASAMS medium-range air defense systems, as announced by Minister of Defense, Arvydas Anušauskas. The contract, signed ahead of schedule due to increased defense funding, emphasizes the critical role of air defense, not only for Lithuania but for the entire NATO alliance.
In addition to NASAMS systems, Lithuania has also secured a contract for a RBS70 NG (MSHORAD) short-range air defense system for approximately 130 million euros. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance defense capabilities, with Anušauskas advocating for increased defense funding to reach 4% of GDP. This commitment enables Lithuania to acquire vital long-range air defense systems and other necessary resources.
The proactive approach taken by Lithuania showcases its dedication to security and preparedness in the face of evolving threats. By investing in modern air defense systems, the country strengthens its defense posture and contributes to the collective security of the NATO alliance.
