Israeli Forces Carry Out More than 30 Air Raids in Beirut’s Southern Suburbs
A series of extensive explosions shook Beirut, marking the most violent night of attacks since Israel’s military offensive against Lebanon intensified on September 23. Israeli warplanes conducted over 30 air raids on the southern suburbs of the capital, causing a massive fireball and plumes of smoke early on Sunday.
Shifting focus from Gaza to Hezbollah, Israel targeted a stronghold in south Beirut with 30 strikes, hitting various locations including a petrol station and a hotel near Rafic Hariri international airport. Al Jazeera’s Ali Hashem reported an escalation in intensity, comparing Beirut to “another Gaza,” with thousands fleeing to the city centre.
Following the strikes, Hezbollah retaliated by launching rockets at Israeli soldiers in Manara and preventing an infiltration attempt in Khallet Shuaib. Israel reported at least nine soldiers killed in southern Lebanon. The conflict escalated further with Israel’s first strike in Tripoli, targeting a senior Hamas leader.
