Islamabad cop dies after weekend clashes: police – Pakistan

An Islamabad policeman tragically passed away in a hospital after being injured during protests in the capital. The Islamabad police reported that the officer, Shah, was tortured by miscreants after being abducted.

Shah, who was due to retire in three months, served in the Investigations Wing and joined the police force in 1988. His death was strongly condemned by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who blamed PTI protesters for the incident.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also expressed condolences to Shah’s family and ordered the arrest of those responsible for the attack. Clashes between PTI supporters and the police turned violent, leading to injuries and arrests.

The Pakistan Army was deployed to ensure security ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, as the situation escalated in the capital. Soldiers patrolled the city to maintain law and order amid the protests.

PTI supporters occupied D-Chowk amidst tear gas shelling, leading to a chaotic scene with strong winds affecting the police’s efforts. The incident marked a concerning turn of events in the ongoing protests.
