The last remaining member of a pack of grey wolves responsible for killing nine people in India, predominantly children, was beaten to death by villagers in the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh. The pack had attacked over 40 individuals, prompting the deployment of 150 armed personnel and forestry officials last month to capture the animals.
After trapping five wolves, drones and surveillance cameras indicated that only one wolf remained free. Villagers contacted government officials on Sunday after killing a wolf they found prowling in the area, displaying visible signs of physical injuries. Government forest officer Ajit Singh confirmed that the deceased wolf was likely part of the same pack that had caused terror among the villagers.
