Hong Kong minister warns ex-Physical gym employees to watch out for new investor deals

Hong Kong’s labour minister is urging former employees of the now-defunct Physical gym chain to protect their interests when signing contracts with a new investor who has retained about 200 workers. Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-han stated that his department has received requests for help from 770 former employees and is assisting them in filing claims with authorities. The government plans to file a winding-up petition to help employees apply for ex gratia payments and recover wages, notice payments, and severance pay.

Sun emphasized the importance of reading and understanding new employment contract terms to safeguard employee interests. He assured that Labour Department staff would provide assistance to those in need. Medical beauty firm Perface is set to takeover the closed gym chain, offering a potential opportunity for some former employees.
