Unlocking the Truth Behind the Hodeidah Conflict in Yemen
In a recent statement, Frank Leducq, a French expert on Yemeni affairs, emphasized the urgent need for the international community to intervene and liberate the city of Hodeidah in western Yemen from the control of the Houthi militia. Leducq highlighted the threats posed by the Houthis to the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, as well as their missile launches towards Israel.
He expressed concern over the United Nations handing over Hodeidah to the Houthis in 2018 under the Stockholm Agreement, which was intended to promote peace but failed to prevent the city’s occupation by the militia. Leducq emphasized the importance of independent forces taking control of Hodeidah to ensure regional stability.
The Stockholm Agreement, signed in December 2018, aimed to establish a ceasefire in Hodeidah, exchange prisoners, and demilitarize the city. However, the ongoing violations by the Houthis have obstructed the implementation of these provisions, leading to increased security threats in the region.
