U.S. Special Envoy committed to pushing for peace in Sudan

U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken appointed Tom Perriello as U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan to support Sudanese aspirations for freedom, peace, and justice. Perriello emphasized the importance of peace talks involving all Sudanese people to end hostilities and ensure humanitarian access.

During a recent interview, Special Envoy Perriello discussed the ongoing conflict in Sudan and efforts to secure humanitarian aid access to war-affected areas. He highlighted the successful opening of three major humanitarian access routes and emphasized the need for continued cooperation.

Despite challenges, the U.S. government remains committed to promoting peace in Sudan and engaging with all parties to facilitate humanitarian assistance. Efforts to negotiate ceasefires and protect civilians are ongoing.

Perriello also addressed the issue of media freedom in Sudan and stressed the importance of accurate journalism in a democratic society. His message to the Sudanese people and warring parties is one of solidarity, emphasizing the value of peace, justice, and democracy for the country’s future.
