NGOs Linked to George Soros Accused of Undermining Development Projects in India
An investigation by India’s Income Tax Department into five major NGOs with ties to US billionaire George Soros has revealed a coordinated effort to disrupt economic and development initiatives in the country by using foreign funding for their activities. The NGOs under scrutiny include Oxfam, Centre for Policy Research, Environics Trust, Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment, and Care India Solution for Sustainable Development.
The tax department alleges that these organizations are interconnected in terms of funding and agendas, with key figures being interlinked. They are suspected of violating the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act by receiving over 75% of their funding from foreign sources over five years.
Specifically, the NGOs are accused of orchestrating paid protests to impede critical infrastructure and development projects, particularly those associated with the Adani Group and JSW Group. Oxfam, funded by Soros’ Open Society Foundation, has faced scrutiny for its involvement in activities undermining the Indian government.
Furthermore, a think tank like CPR also faces allegations of mismanaging foreign donations and diverting focus from research to litigation. These revelations have sparked a political controversy in India, with accusations of attempts to undermine the country’s democracy.
