Meet Ghulam Shabbir, an Unsung Hero on International Teacher’s Day
On this International Teacher’s Day, the inspiring story of Ghulam Shabbir, a devoted school teacher who has been selflessly teaching without a salary for the past nine years, has come to light.
Initially appointed in 2012 at a government school in Sindh, Ghulam Shabbir faced a setback in 2015 when his salary was abruptly stopped due to allegations of a fake hiring scandal by the government.
Despite the financial challenges, Shabbir perseveres, traveling 2 kilometers daily to teach, often hitching rides to reach the school. In his free time, he works as a farmer to sustain himself.
Reflecting on his journey, Shabbir humbly stated, “My commitment to education began in 2012, and even though my salary ceased in 2015, I continue to educate these children every day.”
