Rivers State Police Foil Attempted Arson Attack at Electoral Commission Office

The Rivers State Police Command recently prevented an attempted arson attack at the State Electoral Commission (SIEC) office by deploying operatives following intelligence reports of planned violence by hoodlums.

Superintendent of Police and Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, explained that the police presence was necessary to secure the facility and prevent any harm to electoral materials. Initially, officers from the State Government House were deployed but were later withdrawn due to a court order.

Iringe-Koko clarified that the police were not there to interfere with the electoral process but to maintain public safety. She refuted claims made by Governor Siminalaiyi Fubara, stating that the deployment was solely based on credible intelligence regarding potential attacks.

Assuring residents that the police will not be involved in the polls, Iringe-Koko urged everyone to abide by the law and cooperate for a peaceful electoral process. The Rivers State Police Command remains dedicated to ensuring peace and order in the region.
