The Ukrainian consulate in Lublin is now recruiting Ukrainian volunteers living in Poland, who will undergo training from Polish forces, according to Deputy Defense Minister Pawel Zalewski. The training was initially set to start in September but was delayed due to a lack of volunteers. Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz expressed optimism about the recruitment efforts and emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s defense capabilities for Poland’s security.
The volunteer military unit, known as the legion, was established in July and consists of Ukrainian men trained by the Polish Armed Forces. This initiative is part of a security agreement between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Additionally, Poland has already trained over 20,000 Ukrainian soldiers through the EU program.
Zalewski highlighted Poland’s ongoing support for Ukraine’s defense and its participation in international projects to supply resources to Ukraine. Overall, the cooperation between Ukraine and Poland underscores the commitment to strengthen defense capabilities and security in the region.
