Kiev may need to concede territory loss – Stoltenberg

Ukraine Considers Sacrificing Land for Peace: Former NATO Chief

In a recent interview, former NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg suggested that Ukraine may need to accept the loss of some territory to Russia in order to achieve peace and security. Stoltenberg, who recently stepped down after a 10-year stint, emphasized the importance of finding a solution that would allow Ukraine to sit down with Russia and maintain its independence.

He pointed to historical examples, such as Finland ceding territory to the Soviet Union in exchange for secure borders, as a potential blueprint for Ukraine. Stoltenberg also noted that NATO could provide security guarantees to Ukraine even without the internationally recognized borders.

However, Russia has been unwilling to accept Ukraine’s terms, particularly regarding the regions of Crimea and Donbass. Recent military advances by Russia have further complicated the situation, making it challenging for Ukraine to impose its terms.

As the conflict continues, the possibility of Ukraine making sacrifices for peace remains a topic of discussion, with Stoltenberg’s insights adding a new perspective to the ongoing debate.
