Pakistani Protest Leader Arrested During Anti-Government Demonstration

A key ally of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently in jail, was detained during the latest anti-government protest in Islamabad. Ali Amin Gandapur, chief minister of the northwestern province of Khyber-Pakhunkhwa, was leading a convoy of Khan supporters into the city when he was taken into custody by security forces.

Protests Intensify in Pakistan

Saturday marked the second day of protests against Khan’s imprisonment in Islamabad and Lahore. Demonstrators clashed with police and paramilitary forces near key government buildings while all entrance points to the city were sealed off. Schools were closed and communication services were disrupted in an attempt to control the protests ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

Khan’s Message to Supporters

Imran Khan, currently imprisoned and barred from elections, expressed his gratitude to supporters for their unwavering courage and commitment to the cause. He praised their resilience in the face of adversity as they continue to demand justice and protest against the government.

Violence Escalates in Northwestern Province

Meanwhile, militants killed six Pakistani soldiers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, bordering Afghanistan, during recent clashes. The army reported casualties on both sides following intense fighting in the region.
