During his visit to Beirut, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi expressed support for a ceasefire in Lebanon, contingent on Hezbollah’s approval and synchronized with a Gaza ceasefire. He affirmed Iran’s solidarity with Lebanon and its Shiite population amidst the ongoing conflict with Israel.
Araqchi emphasized Iran’s commitment to Lebanon and its resistance against Israeli aggression. He stated that Iran’s recent defensive actions were in response to attacks on Iranian territories and interests. While affirming no current plans for further strikes on Israel, he warned of strong retaliation if provoked.
However, Lebanese Shiites reportedly feel abandoned by Iran, criticizing its lack of tangible support for Hezbollah. Ali Hussein, a Lebanese activist, expressed disappointment in Iran’s inaction during the conflict.
As Iran continues to engage in ceasefire discussions and maintain support for Lebanon, the situation remains tense and uncertain in the region.
