Former Hong Kong chief executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor is facing pressure to move her office, which costs taxpayers HK$9.17 million annually, to a cheaper location as the lease expires in mid-2025.
The government revealed that Lam’s office at One Pacific Place in Admiralty costs HK$5.67 million in rent and HK$2.86 million in staff expenses. Lawmaker Dominic Lee Tsz-king suggested relocating to a more cost-effective space due to the government’s deficit.
The Administration Wing stated that the lease will expire in mid-May 2025, and they will announce the relocation plans soon according to established policies and procedures.
In summary, the public is questioning Carrie Lam’s use of taxpayer money on her office rent, prompting calls for relocation to a more affordable location. The government is expected to make an official announcement on the matter soon.
