On the evening of 10 May 2019, Abdul Raguragui and his family faced a tragedy that changed their lives forever. Their 18-year-old son, Azzam, was fatally stabbed in a park in Dundrum, Dublin. A week later, Azzam’s funeral took place, showcasing the community’s support and the family’s faith in the Irish justice system.
Although the perpetrator was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced, Abdul continues to advocate against knife crime. He emphasizes the devastating consequences and urges individuals to seek peaceful resolutions instead of resorting to violence.
Abdul has taken his campaign to new heights, meeting with President Michael D Higgins and climbing mountains in memory of Azzam. Despite challenges, he remains committed to raising awareness and preventing future tragedies.
While recent policy changes aim to address knife-related offenses, Abdul believes more action is needed. With a surge in knife seizures and ongoing concerns, he stresses the importance of collective efforts to combat this issue.
