The deal between the UK and Mauritius on the Chagos archipelago strengthened the confidence of Falklands and Gibraltar in the UK’s commitment to self-determination. Despite nationalist claims on Gibraltar and the Falklands, the UK’s strategic military interests and strong alliances reinforce its support for the territories.

Gibraltar’s Deputy Chief Minister assured that the UK’s stance on Gibraltar remains unchanged. The Falklands Legislative Assembly emphasized the UK’s commitment to self-determination for the Falkland Islands people. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband affirmed the non-negotiable status of the Falkland Islands under UK control.
