The Defense Infrastructure Organization (DIO) has awarded a £20 million contract to Mitie for runway repairs at Mount Pleasant Complex, the RAF airfield in the Falkland Islands. Dyer and Butler will undertake the project, replacing 20,000m2 of airfield operating ground by resurfacing the Foxtrot taxiway and the threshold.

Construction is set to begin soon, with equipment and materials being transported from the UK to the islands by ship. The project is expected to be completed by March 2025 to avoid the challenging weather conditions during the South Atlantic winter.

Maj Brad Southall of DIO emphasized the importance of collaboration for the project’s success, while Charlie Antelme, Managing Director of Defense at Mitie, expressed pride in supporting the UK Armed Forces in their operations. The repairs aim to ensure the safety and efficiency of aircraft arrivals and departures at the complex for years to come.
