Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reported a significant increase in cases, with most victims being women and girls, including minors. The ongoing conflict and instability in the region have contributed to the widespread abuse of human rights, particularly in areas controlled by armed groups.
The situation is particularly dire in Goma and its surrounding displacement camps, where the number of cases continues to rise due to intensified clashes. The survivors not only suffer from physical trauma but also face severe psychological wounds, unwanted pregnancies, and sexually transmitted infections.
Despite numerous efforts to address the crisis, access to justice and long-term medical care remains limited, highlighting the urgent need for a large-scale mobilization to protect displaced populations and support survivors. The international community and local authorities must take urgent action to combat the culture of impunity that allows these atrocities to persist and address the root causes of violence in the DRC.
