China Urges Dialogue Among Somali Parties to Resolve Differences

A Chinese envoy, Dai Bing, emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue and unity among all Somali parties to resolve differences through peaceful means. Speaking at a UN Security Council briefing on Somalia, Dai highlighted the progress made by Somalia in national reconstruction and peace and security, as well as the critical transition period for UN and AU missions in the country.

The envoy stressed the need for continued support from the international community to help Somalia navigate this crucial stage. Dai outlined three key points: maintaining political stability, strengthening security transition, and ensuring a smooth UNSOM transition.

China has consistently supported the Somali government in safeguarding national unity and territorial integrity. Dai called on the international community to assist Somalia in finding a development path tailored to its needs and to provide long-term stability.

Dai also urged for funding support for the new AU mission in Somalia and called on the Security Council to explore sustainable financial options for the mission. He noted the Somali government’s proposal for the transition of UNSOM to a UN country team and called for a smooth and orderly transition process in line with Somalia’s development priorities.

China remains committed to supporting peace and development in Somalia and enhancing the country’s capacity for autonomous development and stability.
