Empowering Education in South Sudan through GESS Cash Transfer Program
The Girls’ Education South Sudan (GESS) 2024 cash transfer process has officially kicked off, as announced by the program sponsors. GESS, funded by UK aid, the Government of Canada, the European Union, USAID, SIDA, and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to support girls and boys with disabilities in accessing and completing their education.
This year, the program targets girls in Primary 7 to Senior 4, Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP) levels 3 and 4, and for the first time, boys with disabilities in the same classes. Over 250,000 learners are set to benefit from the cash transfer, lifting the financial burden off parents and learners.
With over 1.1 million girls enrolled in schools, GESS is now shifting its focus towards girls and boys with disabilities in upper primary and secondary schools to address the challenges they face. By providing financial assistance directly to learners, GESS aims to reduce barriers to education, especially for those with disabilities.
The program emphasizes transparency and accountability, urging stakeholders to report any misappropriation of funds during the cash transfers. Through targeted financial support, GESS is paving the way for a brighter future for South Sudanese children.
