Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East due to Israel’s continued ground invasion and heavy bombing in Lebanon, 97 Koreans and their families who were staying in Lebanon boarded a military transport plane provided by the government and arrived in South Korea on the afternoon of the 5th. The group, including 96 South Koreans and 1 family member with Lebanese nationality, landed at Seoul Airport after departing from Beirut on an Air Force KC-330 Sydney. This evacuation was prompted by the deteriorating situation in Lebanon as Israel intensified its attacks, prompting several countries to deploy military transport planes to evacuate their citizens.
South Korea’s swift response team, including 5 members dispatched to help facilitate the evacuation of Korean nationals, communicated with Lebanon’s Foreign Minister to ensure a safe return. With tensions mounting in the region, efforts are being made to stabilize the situation as countries like Japan, the UK, and Germany also mobilize planes for their citizens’ rescue. The evacuation of Koreans from Lebanon underscores South Korea’s commitment to peace in the Middle East.
