In the run-up to the upcoming by-election on October 16, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, emphasized the need for citizens to make a strong statement and pass a second judgment on the current administration. Speaking in Incheon’s Ganghwa County, Lee highlighted the importance of holding those in power accountable and changing the current direction of governance.
Criticizing the government’s policies towards North Korea, Lee also promised to amend the Civil Defense Basic Law. He pledged to address the challenges faced by residents in border areas and minimize the impact of inter-Korean tensions on their daily lives.
Furthermore, Lee proposed the issuance of local currency worth 300 billion won annually and the provision of a monthly basic income of 100,000 won to over 4,600 young adults residing in Ganghwa County. Emphasizing accountability and transparency in governance, he stressed the importance of utilizing local resources for the benefit of the community.
