UK boosts humanitarian aid to Lebanon – Naharnet

The UK is increasing its humanitarian aid to Lebanon with an additional £10 million to address the displacement of people and mounting civilian casualties. Urging British nationals to leave the country and calling for an immediate ceasefire, the UK aims to provide relief to those affected by the conflict. The funding will support essential services like shelter, education, clean water, and healthcare through trusted humanitarian organizations in Lebanon.

In addition to the £5 million aid package delivered through UNICEF, the UK is also a leading donor to the U.N.’s Central Emergency Response Fund, which allocated £7.6 million to address urgent needs in Lebanon. Minister Anneliese Dodds emphasized the importance of a ceasefire to address the humanitarian crisis, urging British nationals to evacuate promptly.

The British government is organizing further flights to assist British nationals in leaving Lebanon, with eligibility criteria for passengers. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to increase capacity on commercial flights for evacuations. British Defense Secretary John Healey visited Cyprus to thank deployed military personnel for their assistance.
