Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan highlighted the importance of technology in promoting development, independence, and security during his speech at TEKNOFEST, Türkiye’s premier technology event. Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s efforts to reduce foreign dependence, especially in the defense industry, despite facing challenges and sabotage along the way.
With a growing GDP of over $1.1 trillion, Türkiye has made significant advancements in indigenous production, particularly in the defense sector where the country now boasts an 80% share of indigenous production. Erdogan also praised Türkiye’s position as a global leader in unmanned aerial vehicles.
Acknowledging the success of research and development, Erdogan credited TEKNOFEST for enhancing Türkiye’s technology ecosystem and reducing the country’s foreign dependency. He underlined Türkiye’s commitment to not only using technology but also designing, developing, producing, and exporting it, especially in vital areas like electronic warfare and cybersecurity.
Erdogan’s vision for a technologically independent and powerful Türkiye was evident as he declared, “From tanks to UAVs, we are becoming extremely powerful.”
