Pakistan retrieves Rs119 billion from defaulters in 80 days.

The Power Division Recovers Over Rs119 Billion in Countrywide Crackdown on Electricity Theft

The Pakistani government, in collaboration with the military leadership, has successfully recovered Rs119 billion during a widespread crackdown on electricity theft. This initiative is part of a larger strategy to boost the country’s economy, and it is yielding positive results.

Since the crackdown began, a total of Rs119.79 billion has been reclaimed from individuals involved in electricity theft, with 85,572 offenders arrested. Notably, over one billion rupees were collected from electricity thieves in various cities such as Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad.

The power minister highlighted that the annual loss faced by 10 distribution companies in Pakistan amounts to Rs589 billion, mainly due to electricity theft and nonpayment of bills. In response to rising public discontent, the government initiated this crackdown to address the issue and curb the escalating circular debt in the power sector.
