Rising Human Trafficking Cases in Delta State: NGO Launches Pilot Project in 50 Schools

Aiming to combat the escalating issue of human trafficking in Delta State, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development has joined hands with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons to launch a pilot project in 50 selected schools. This initiative involves a comprehensive approach focusing on students, teachers, parents, and local organisations.

Dr. Mojisola Sodeinde, representing ICMPD’s West Africa Region, highlighted the impact of human trafficking on vulnerable communities in Delta, particularly children. The project aims to educate and empower students to safeguard their futures and thrive without exploitation.

Director General of NAPTIP, Mr. Binta Bello, emphasized the collective effort needed to combat human trafficking, with support for victims and preventive activities. The Netherlands Embassy in Abuja praised the initiative, emphasizing the importance of preventing child trafficking and reintegrating affected individuals into the education system.

With a focus on educating stakeholders and implementing preventive measures, the project strives to create a future where every child can pursue education freely, ensuring a thriving and exploitation-free community in Delta State.
