New Defense Commissioner warns EU to ready for conflict with Russia

EU Commissioner for Defense and Space, Andrius Kubilius, has warned that the EU and Russia could potentially face each other on the battlefield within the next decade. Kubilius, a former Lithuanian prime minister known for his tough stance on Moscow, emphasized the urgent need for the bloc to bolster defense production, accumulate reserves, and continue supporting Ukraine.

Advocating for a proactive approach to security, Kubilius stressed the importance of being prepared for potential military confrontation. He proposed the establishment of a “European Defense Union” and encouraged investments in advanced defense technology to ensure the EU’s readiness to engage with Russia militarily in the next six to eight years.

Kubilius, who has been a vocal advocate for a firm stance against Russia, has called on Brussels to take a tougher stance, including imposing additional sanctions. His proposals have not been without controversy, with Moscow criticizing his initiatives as biased and intrusive.

While Kubilius is not the only EU politician expressing concerns about potential conflict with Russia, his warnings underscore the growing tensions between the EU and Moscow. As geopolitical dynamics continue to shift, the need for robust defense strategies and preparedness remains a top priority for European leaders.
