The ruling Democratic Party and the Innovation Party have agreed on a single candidate for the by-election for the mayor of Geumjeong-gu, Busan, scheduled for October 16th. After conducting a public opinion poll between the 5th and 6th of October, the two parties will announce the single candidate on the 6th.
The agreement was announced by Cheon Jun-ho, the Democratic Party’s head of strategic planning, and Jung Chun-saeng, the Innovation Party’s deputy chief, during a press conference at the National Assembly’s Communication Hall at 5:50 PM. The debate on the single candidacy between Kim Gyeong-ji of the Democratic Party and Ryu Je-seong of the Innovation Party will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the two parties and ‘Medici Media’ on the 5th from 10 AM to 12 PM.
The agreement was reached after some difficulties as the parties initially disagreed on including a clause to prevent reverse selection in the opinion poll. However, they eventually resumed negotiations and reached a consensus. With the election heating up, all eyes are on the final outcome in Geumjeong-gu.
