Recently, local authorities in Guanajuato, Mexico, made a chilling discovery, uncovering twelve bodies in various locations in Salamanca. The killings were attributed to ongoing disputes between organized crime groups in the region.
Guanajuato, known for its industrial prominence and tourist attractions, has unfortunately earned the title of Mexico’s most violent state, as per official homicide statistics.
The victims, consisting of three women and nine men, were found with signs of torture and gunshot wounds, with one victim even being dismembered. Messages left at the scene indicated the involvement of a cartel in the gruesome act.
This incident follows a recent attack on a residential center, resulting in four deaths. Salamanca Mayor Cesar Prieto expressed concern over the escalating violence but described it as a temporary issue arising from inter-group conflicts.
In Guanajuato, the Santa Rosa de Lima and the Jalisco New Generation cartels are currently embroiled in a deadly turf war. With over 450,000 murders in Mexico since 2006 due to organized crime, President Claudia Sheinbaum is set to unveil a national security plan to combat the escalating violence.
