The Adamawa State Police Command recently revealed that Abdullahi Mohammed, a 30-year-old man who climbed a 33 kv high tension electricity pole in Mayo-Belwa, has been admitted to the Yola Psychiatric hospital for mental examination. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, Mohammed is undergoing psychiatric tests at the hospital due to his abnormal behavior and drug use.
Last Saturday night, the Adamawa Police Command rescued Mohammed, who was demanding President Bola Tinubu’s resignation before he would come down from the pole. The police spokesperson emphasized that attempting suicide is a criminal offense in Nigeria, and Mohammed will face legal consequences.
After engaging with locals, the police successfully persuaded Mohammed to descend from the pole. It was discovered that Mohammed hails from Gashaka town in Taraba State. The incident highlighted the importance of mental health awareness and intervention in the community.
