Kiir informs new spy chief of heavy new responsibility

President Salva Kiir Mayardit Supports New Director General of National Security Service

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has expressed his full support for Gen Akec Tong Aleu, the new Director General of the National Security Service (NSS) in South Sudan. During the swearing-in ceremony, President Kiir urged Gen Aleu to face the challenges ahead with determination and capability.

Gen Chol Thon Balok, the Minister for Defense and Veteran Affairs, also encouraged Gen Aleu to address challenges in the security sector, politics, and the economy. Meanwhile, Former Presidential Affairs Minister Nhial Deng Nhial emphasized the importance of protecting the constitutional system, leadership, citizens’ lives, and property.

The sudden removal of Gen Akol Koor Kuc as the former spy chief has sparked speculations of a power struggle within President Kiir’s inner circle. Gen Kuc, who served as head of the NSS since South Sudan’s independence in 2011, has now been appointed as the governor of Warrap state.

While the reasons for Gen Kuc’s removal remain undisclosed, analysts believe it could hint at a potential shift in leadership dynamics within the country. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
