Israel Strikes Lebanon-Syria Border Crossing
Israel conducted airstrikes that sealed off Lebanon’s main border crossing with Syria, following an intense attack on Beirut’s southern suburbs. The target of the attack is believed to be the heir apparent to Hezbollah’s slain secretary general.
According to the Hezbollah-affiliated Al Mayadeen Network, traffic at the Masnaa crossing, which had facilitated the movement of around 300,000 people, mostly Syrians fleeing Lebanon to Syria, was interrupted.
Lebanese Transportation Minister noted that the attack created a large crater near the border crossing, forcing people to walk across the frontier. Israeli officials claim the crossing was used to smuggle arms for Hezbollah.
Recent strikes on Hezbollah-controlled border crossings prompted Israel to target the Masnaa border, a civilian access point used for arms smuggling. The military destroyed machinery used to repair the previously attacked crossings.
Major Avichay Adaree, IDF Arabic language spokesperson, reported intercepting a truck carrying weapons destined for South Lebanon, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the region.
