Iran FM threatens ‘comprehensive’ retaliation to Israeli aggression

Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, issued a strong warning to Israel during a news conference in Beirut, stating that any act of aggression from Israel will be met with a “comprehensive and proportionate” response from Tehran. Araghchi emphasized Iran’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and regional interests.

He highlighted his positive meetings with Lebanese officials and reiterated Iran’s support for Lebanon and the resistance, including backing for Hezbollah. Araghchi justified Iran’s recent missile attack on Tel Aviv as legitimate self-defense in response to Israeli aggression against Iranian territory and interests.

This visit marked Araghchi’s first to Lebanon since assuming office, amid ongoing tensions between Hezbollah and Israel. The conflict has led to significant casualties and displacement in Lebanon, with fears of escalation to a wider regional war. The international community has urged restraint to prevent further violence.
