India’s Supreme Court Orders Investigation into Alleged Adulteration of Sacred Offering at Temple

Recently, the sacred offering of prasad laddu at Venkateswara temple in Tirupati has been embroiled in controversy. The Andhra Pradesh state government alleged that the clarified butter used to prepare the sweet offering contained animal fat, including traces of beef tallow, fish oil, and lard. This accusation led to widespread outrage in the Hindu-majority country and calls for an independent investigation.

Following the allegations, the almost 2,000-year-old Venkateswara temple underwent a purification ritual. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to form an investigation team comprising members from the federal and state police as well as India’s food safety authority.

The investigation aims to uncover the truth behind the adulteration claims and address the sacrilege concerns surrounding the sacred offering. Stay tuned for updates on this unfolding story.
