Imran Khan’s Sisters Arrested as Islamabad Police Crack Down on PTI Activists

The Islamabad police arrested several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists, including party founder Imran Khan’s sisters Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, who were attempting to reach D-Chowk for a planned protest. The sisters were detained by the police upon their arrival at D-Chowk, where they intended to join the party workers in the demonstration.

Amid clashes between PTI supporters and law enforcement, with police using tear gas to disperse protestors who retaliated by throwing stones, the IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi issued a warning for heightened alertness in the area.

Despite the crackdown, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur vowed to reach D-Chowk “at any cost” and criticized the government for targeting peaceful political workers. Internet and mobile networks were also suspended in various cities, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, in anticipation of the protests. Additionally, the Punjab government deployed Rangers personnel in four cities and enforced Section 144 to ban political gatherings and rallies.
