Germany urges Juba to honor peace deal on Unity Day

German Ambassador Urges South Sudan to Prioritize Peace Agreement

German Ambassador to South Sudan, Christian Sedat, emphasized the importance of implementing the Revitalized Peace Agreement following the extension of the transitional period by two years. Speaking during Germany’s 34th Unity Day celebration in Juba, Sedat highlighted the need for swift and comprehensive execution of the peace deal through constructive dialogue.

Sedat reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting South Sudan in addressing political, humanitarian, and economic challenges, especially amidst a humanitarian crisis exacerbated by floods. The bilateral ties between the two nations were acknowledged, with Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Monday Semaya expressing gratitude for Germany’s longstanding support in various sectors such as agriculture, health, and technical training.

Semaya also appealed for further cooperation in education, technology, and cultural exchange, underscoring South Sudan’s dedication to collaborating with Germany for mutual benefits. The event culminated in a pledge to strengthen ties and work together towards sustainable development and peace in the region.
