The Greater Chennai Corporation has acquired 36 boats in preparation for the upcoming northeast monsoon to enhance the city’s readiness for heavy rainfall. Apart from the boats, 15 IAS officers have been stationed across different zones to manage monsoon issues effectively.

This proactive move comes after a forecast of increased rainfall by the Regional Meteorological Centre. The boats have been strategically deployed in various zones to ensure quick response during emergencies. In response to past flood incidents, the GCC is focusing on improving disaster management approaches and has introduced a public notice for Community Development Volunteers to assist in flood-related activities within communities.

Additionally, Chief Minister M K Stalin announced the launch of TN-Alert, a mobile application providing real-time information on rainfall, weather forecasts, and reservoir levels. The government also plans to install automated weather stations and rain gauges to enhance data collection and emergency responses.
