Armenia acquires weapons for self-defense – Foreign Ministry

Armenia recently addressed the concerns raised by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev regarding Armenia’s military acquisitions and threats. The Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that Armenia acquires weapons and equipment solely for self-defense and protecting its citizens, citing the UN Charter rights for self-defense and the obligation to protect citizens under international law. Meanwhile, Armenia has reiterated that it has no aggressive intentions towards its neighbors and recognizes their territorial integrity.

The recent decision of the Constitutional Court of Armenia confirmed the compliance of regulations governing border delimitation commissions with the Armenian constitution. Armenia maintains its commitment to peace and territorial integrity based on previous agreements with Azerbaijan. The spokesperson raised concerns about Azerbaijan’s aggressive rhetoric and the potential for military aggression during the upcoming COP29 conference in Baku.

Armenia advocates for peaceful resolutions and emphasizes the importance of signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan. Instead of aggressive rhetoric, both nations should focus on negotiating in conditions of peace to resolve any outstanding issues.
