In a press conference at the Government building of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Darko Juka, the head of the Public Relations Department, provided updates on the devastating floods that have hit the region. He mentioned that the situation is slightly more stable, with emergency services managing to reach Jablanica which is currently isolated. The collapse of roads and bridges has made the wider area of Konjica also cut off, with evacuations being carried out by boats. Juka emphasized the presence of various rescue teams and organizations, including the Civil Protection, police, Mountain Rescue Service, and Red Cross.
With infrastructure problems and power system overloading concerns, Juka highlighted the challenges faced due to road collapses. He stated the confirmed death toll of 14 and noted the alarming number of missing persons, describing the chaotic situation as unprecedented since the war. Juka ended with a grim warning about the upcoming weekend, urging people to understand the seriousness of the crisis.
