Youth-led campaign promotes migrant welcome in US, tackles hate speech | #Elections2024

The United We Dream organization is taking a stand against anti-immigrant rhetoric in the U.S. by launching a campaign with over 35 billboards in five states. Messages like “Immigrants are welcome here!” are meant to combat the violence and misinformation directed at migrants.

Anabel Mendoza, the communications director for United We Dream, emphasizes the need to protect immigrant communities from the threats and hate they face. The billboards will be displayed in English and Spanish in Arizona, Texas, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Ohio, with the support of other organizations.

The campaign comes in response to escalating violence, such as bomb threats in Ohio triggered by false claims made by Donald Trump during a presidential debate. The hostility towards migrants is growing, with migrants facing harassment and discrimination in various states.

While illegal immigration remains a hot topic in the election, the campaign aims to show support for migrants and highlight their importance to communities. By rejecting hate and promoting inclusivity, the initiative seeks to create a welcoming environment for all individuals, regardless of their immigration status.
