Unity State Residents Express Mixed Feelings on Transitional Government Extension
Residents of Unity State have shared their views on the extension of the Transitional Government, with some expressing satisfaction while others remain skeptical. Despite the extension, many residents are adamant that a General Election must be held in 2026 as promised.
Gatdet Gatduol Gatjang emphasized the importance of implementing pending requirements of the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement during this extended period, including security arrangements and a new constitution. He stressed that failure to do so would show a lack of commitment from the government.
Meanwhile, Gatluak Gai Matoang urged the government to address critical issues of peace and disarm civilians to ensure a peaceful environment for future elections. John Nyebol echoed this sentiment, highlighting the need to avoid a return to past conflicts.
While some residents like Nyajal Kuol Tut have expressed disappointment in the extension, others view it as an opportunity to maintain stability. The delay of the national election until 2026 has sparked mixed reactions, with many South Sudanese questioning the government’s intentions.
